The showman needed a trainer for his lions, and when the girl offered herself he engaged her, not only because of her experience in handling the Kings of the Forest, but because she fascinated him. When the perilous cargo of denizens of the jungle had been safely placed amid ship the showman and the girl went along. While on the cruise the ship picked up a cargo of smuggled gold dust, and when the girl repulsed the showman's attentions, and showed her preference for the captain, the showman incited the crew to mutiny, to secure the gold dust. As the rioting crew charged upon them the girl and the captain dashed below deck; fastening the hatches they sought to escape. Before they dropped into the small dory alongside the girl set the lions free and just as they left the captain fired the ship. Maddened beyond all description, the crew battered open the batch, to be greeted by flames and smoke, and worst of all, a peril they had little expected. The lions were free. They drove the men ...
