It's been 24 years since Maren Bertram left her parents' farm in Bavaria. At that time, after the mysterious accidental death of her mother, she had a serious argument with her father Maximilian, whom she blamed for the death of her beloved mother in a mixture of anger and sadness. A small ray of hope for the returnee is the reunion with her childhood sweetheart Johann. It doesn't take long for the old feelings to flare up again between the two of them. Then by chance Maren finds out that her father's farm is heavily in debt and is about to be forcibly sold. What she doesn't suspect: of all people, the charming Johann has set his sights on the traditional family property in order to realize a gigantic building project. When Maximilian, who is in poor health, learns of the connection between Maren and Johann, a world collapses for him. Convinced that his enterprising daughter is in league with the building speculator, he strongly reproaches her. Maren has long had a clever idea how, with Johann's support, she can save the farm from being sold.
